Acolytes at St. Augustine’s offer to the glory of God their gifts in assisting at our worship services. Acolytes come in a number of varieties, including crucifers, torch bearers, and book bearers. Crucifers carry the cross and lead the worship procession. Torch bearers follow in procession carrying candles, and usually light and extinguish the candles. Book bearers carry the Gospel book in procession and hold the book for the Gospeller to read from. At special, festive services additional acolytes act as Thurifer (carrying the thurible for incense) and carry our processional banner.If you would like to be an Acolyte, please contact Valeria Eiseman, our Acolyte Coordinator or the parish office.
