“All things come from you, and of your own do we give you.” 1 Chronicles 29:14
Theologically, stewardship is all about promising to give back to God, to God’s Church, and for God’s mission a small portion of what God has given us as a visible sign of our gratitude.
Practically, we are entirely self-financed; we receive no share of the German church tax and no regular support from the wider church. So all our activities – our mission and ministry – rely on regular donations to operate. We have paid staff, not just a priest but also in the office and in our music ministry, we have to pay for supplies and materials, utilities and insurance, our membership in ecumenical, Anglican and Episcopal bodies, and to support others in need both near and afar. We invite all members of the congregation to consider a regular financial commitment.
What should you give? What you feel God is calling you to give. The Episcopal Church teaches the tithe, 10% of your income, as a goal. But even small amounts can make a difference, just like the mustard seed Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven with: “it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree.” (Matthew 13:31-32) What is important is the commitment of whole congregation to that part of the Body of Christ that is St. Augustine’s.
Here is the Stewardship Commitment Form we ask you to fill in and return to the office.
If you considering making a provision for St. Augustine’s in your will, here is some information about how that works. Please contact us if you would like to know more.
